HARARE – Zimbabwe’s football governance is set for a major shake-up as the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) officially announced July 25 as the date for the eagerly awaited Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) elections.
The elections form a pivotal part of the association’s roadmap to restructure and rejuvenate football administration in the country, particularly at the top-flight level. Positions to be contested in the PSL include chairperson, two deputy chairpersons, and three emergency committee members. For the WPSL, the poll will elect a chairperson, a vice chairperson, and five committee members.
ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi highlighted the significance of the process, stating that the elections are part of broader efforts to restore integrity, credibility, and inclusivity in football administration.
“The PSL and WPSL elections represent an important milestone in the renewal of our football structures. As ZIFA, we are fully committed to delivering a credible, transparent, and inclusive process that strengthens the foundations of the game in Zimbabwe,” Magwizi said.
The PSL chairperson post has remained vacant since the resignation of Farai Jere in December 2024, when he opted to run for a seat on the ZIFA Board — a term which has since come to an end. In the women’s game, Theresa Maguraushe has been serving in an interim capacity as WPSL chairperson since the league was reconstituted last year.
With election preparations gaining momentum, stakeholders in the football community are hopeful that the July polls will usher in a new era of visionary leadership and transformative progress for Zimbabwean football — both on and off the pitch.
