The Head of State and Government expressed his admiration when he hosted the winning team at State House in Harare this Monday. The team, composed of students from Heritage School and St. George’s College, outshone 19 other schools from across the Southern African region to claim the top position.
President Mnangagwa described the team’s performance as a clear validation of Zimbabwe’s education system and commended the learners for their hard work and excellence.
“I take great delight in meeting young Zimbabweans who excel. Out of many students of their age and grade, these young people distinguished themselves through exceptional performance. That is why they are here today to meet the Head of State. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to them,” said the President.
Team Zimbabwe’s performance was outstanding, with the delegation securing several individual accolades, including Best Coach, Best Female Speaker, and Best Male Speaker of the competition.
Reflecting on the experience, Best Female Speaker Ms. Kimberly Chamboko said, “It was a tough competition. We faced many schools and countries, but through determination and many sleepless nights, we managed to win and bring the trophy back home.”
Mr. Simbarashe Mujuru, who was awarded Best Male Speaker, added, “The competition was challenging, but our perseverance paid off. Representing Zimbabwe at such a level is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and something I will always cherish.”
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Torerai Moyo, highlighted that the victory further demonstrates the strength of Zimbabwe’s heritage-based curriculum, which is designed to nurture talents and align education with career pathways.
“Zimbabwe will now represent the Southern African region at the next competition scheduled for August in Ghana, and we wish our students continued success. The significance of this achievement lies in the fact that our education must be practical and relevant. Education that does not produce goods or services for the people is not meaningful,” Dr. Moyo explained.
He added, “Moot court sessions mirror real court proceedings, and our students demonstrated legal acumen, suggesting a clear pathway to law careers. This is the essence of the heritage-based curriculum introduced and supported by His Excellency the President. It enables learners to discover and follow their talents.”
Team Zimbabwe’s achievement stands as a proud moment for the nation and affirms the country’s position as a leader in educational excellence in the region.
