Government Assures Public Security Amid Attempts to Incite Unlawful Gatherings

The Government of Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability amid efforts by criminal elements to incite unlawful gatherings through social media and pseudo press statements. In a statement issued by the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Kazembe Kazembe, the government condemned these mobilization attempts, emphasizing that such actions undermine national security and economic progress.

The minister warned those behind these subversive activities, stating that their intentions have been exposed and that the government will not hesitate to take action against those seeking to disrupt public order. He reiterated that Zimbabwe’s security services are on high alert, ensuring that citizens and visitors can go about their daily activities without fear. Adequate police deployments have been made across the country to safeguard an environment conducive to socio-economic development.

The government reminded the public of the legal provisions under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and the Cyber Security and Data Protection Act, which criminalize incitement to violence and the unlawful distribution of data messages intended to cause public disorder. Hon. Kazembe stressed that the Zimbabwe Republic Police, under the leadership of the Commissioner General, will enforce the law to its fullest extent, ensuring that individuals who threaten public order face legal consequences.

In a call for public cooperation, the minister urged peace-loving citizens to report any suspicious activities or incitement to violence through the provided police emergency contact lines in Harare, Bulawayo, and nationwide. The government assured the public that law enforcement authorities would respond swiftly to any reports.

Emphasizing the importance of law and order in national development, Hon. Kazembe urged all Zimbabweans to continue abiding by the law as the country works towards achieving an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. The statement reaffirmed the government’s dedication to protecting the security and well-being of all citizens while ensuring that Zimbabwe remains a stable and peaceful nation.
