The SADC Council of Ministers will convene in Harare tomorrow for a crucial two-day meeting, with a primary focus on advancing the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) for 2020-2030. The plan outlines vital priority areas that aim to shape the region’s future, including Peace, Security and Good Governance, Industrial Development, Infrastructure, and addressing social challenges such as Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira, who will chair the session, confirmed that preparations for the meeting were progressing smoothly. “Everything is moving superbly as we prepare for this important gathering,” he said, underscoring the significance of the discussions that will take place.

Book NowThe event will kick off with welcome remarks from SADC Executive Secretary, Mr. Elias Magosi, followed by Prof. Murwira’s address. During the sessions, the ministers will also discuss the key theme of the 44th SADC Summit, which took place last year in Harare: “Promoting innovation to unlock opportunities for sustained economic growth and development towards an industrialised SADC.”
Additionally, earlier this week, Mr. Magosi met with the UN FAO’s Sub-Regional Coordinator for Southern Africa, Dr. Patrice Talla, to discuss regional food security efforts. The visit highlighted the ongoing cooperation between SADC and FAO in sectors like Agriculture, Fisheries, and Climate Change, areas pivotal for achieving the RISDP goals.
On Friday, Prof. Murwira is expected to deliver the closing remarks, marking the conclusion of the meeting’s discussions.
