Responding to growing calls within Zanu PF for his term to be extended to 2030, President Mnangagwa affirmed his position, stating that although he appreciates the support from party members, he remains steadfast in his commitment to democratic principles and constitutionalism.

“I am a constitutionalist, and when my two terms come to an end, the country and the party will elect a new leader,” he said.

The President acknowledged that those advocating for the extension of his term are doing so out of respect for the accomplishments achieved during his time in office, including progress in infrastructure development, economic growth, and agriculture.

However, he made it clear that his focus remains on ensuring a smooth and democratic transition when his term expires.

“It is essential that we follow the constitutional process, and I will step aside when the time comes,” he affirmed.

He also responded to questions regarding his position on the issue of term limits, saying, “When my two terms come to an end, I will allow the country and my party to elect my successor.

That is as clear as day.” Despite ongoing efforts to persuade him to remain in office, President Mnangagwa emphasized that he will not be swayed and will continue to uphold the principles of democracy.

The President’s remarks were well-received by the media, who engaged in a robust discussion on national issues, including Zimbabwe’s economic resilience, political landscape, and the role of the media in shaping public discourse.

Throughout the meeting, President Mnangagwa showed a deep understanding of current national issues, responding to questions with clarity and humor.

He concluded by reaffirming that Zimbabwe’s future lies in the hands of its people and that it is essential to remain united in the pursuit of a prosperous and democratic nation.
