ZANU-PF Youth League’s 2025 Agenda: A Defining Moment for Engagement and Empowerment

The ZANU-PF Youth League’s 2025 action plan outlines an ambitious roadmap aimed at strengthening party structures, increasing youth participation, and addressing economic and social challenges.

With a strong focus on recruitment, empowerment, and strategic positioning in key sectors, the plan underscores the league’s intent to be a driving force in both party politics and national development. However, its success will depend on execution, inclusivity, and long-term impact.

The drive to recruit high school students as future voters is a proactive step in shaping political consciousness from a young age. However, engagement must go beyond recruitment; young people must see tangible benefits in aligning with the party. Political education, leadership training, and real opportunities for advancement will be crucial in ensuring that youth participation is not just symbolic but meaningful.

Economic empowerment remains a central pillar of the plan, with initiatives targeting informal markets, mining, tourism, and small businesses. While this is a commendable approach, there must be clear mechanisms to ensure inclusivity and sustainability. The proposal to take control of informal sector spaces such as flea markets and rental areas could be a double-edged sword—while it may empower party members, it should not alienate or marginalize others in the process. True empowerment comes from structured policies that uplift all young people, regardless of political affiliation.

The Youth League’s commitment to tackling drug abuse is another crucial element. Substance abuse has become a major concern among young Zimbabweans, and while education and rehabilitation efforts are necessary, prevention must be at the forefront. Working closely with the government and other stakeholders will be essential to implementing effective interventions that go beyond party lines.

Furthermore, events such as music galas, provincial leagues, and fundraising dinners are valuable for visibility and mobilization, but they must serve a greater purpose. These platforms should nurture young talent, provide networking opportunities, and create pathways for economic growth. If executed effectively, they can enhance youth engagement beyond political activism and into nation-building.The ZANU-PF Youth League’s agenda for 2025 is bold and strategic, but its true impact will be measured by how well it translates vision into action.

The challenge lies in ensuring that these initiatives are not just political mobilization tools but genuine efforts to empower Zimbabwe’s youth for the long term. Accountability, inclusivity, and proper implementation will determine whether this plan leaves a lasting legacy or becomes just another set of promises.
