Renewal of professional body membership subject to Tax Clearance Certificate submission

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has advised professional bodies members that it is now mandatory to acquire tax clearance certificates.

The members will only be registered by the professional bodies upon furnishing them with tax clearance certificates.

The tax clearance certificate must be valid no earlier than thirty (30) days prior to its submission.

The change is in line with amendments to the Income Tax Act [Chapter 23:06]. The Act was amended through Finance Act no 2 of 2024.

Members of the following professional bodies are expected to comply with the anew change:

Architects, Engineers and Technicians, Land Surveyors, Legal Practitioners and Auditors and Accountants.

Members who do not have tax clearance certificates will not be registered by the professional bodies.

The move is meant to ensure professionals pay their taxes and are in good standing with the revenue authority.
