The annual Chief Marozva Bikita Minerals Tournament commenced on Sunday, November 11, 2024, at Pamushana High School in Bikita, drawing enthusiastic participation from across the district.
The event, now in its ninth year, saw 12 soccer teams and 6 netball teams come together to compete for top honors, fostering community spirit and showcasing the region’s athletic talent.
In the soccer competition, teams were divided into three groups, with each team battling for a place in the semi-finals. From Group A, Bikita Minerals claimed victory, while Cream Stars from Group B and Bikita Rulers from Group C emerged as winners in their respective groups. Additionally, Venus FC secured a semi-final spot as the best runner-up. The semi-finals are set for Saturday, November 16, at Bikita Minerals Grounds, where these teams will compete for a place in the final.
The netball competition followed a round-robin format, featuring six teams: Nyika, Gombo, Mufuka, Bikita Minerals, Kondovira, and Bikita Rulers. After intense matches, Bikita Minerals and Gombo emerged as the top two teams and will face off in the final.
This annual tournament not only promotes sportsmanship but also supports youth development in Bikita District. By providing a platform for young athletes to display their skills in both soccer and netball, the Chief Marozva Bikita Minerals Tournament underscores Bikita Minerals’ commitment to community support and nurturing local talent.
The upcoming semi-final soccer matches and the netball final are expected to draw large crowds, uniting the community in celebration of athletic prowess and regional pride.
