Optimism Grows as the 114th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Approaches

As the 114th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) nears, excitement is building across the nation. Scheduled from August 26 to 31, 2024, this year’s event promises to be both innovative and dynamic, captured by the theme: ‘Cultivating Prosperity: Growing Business, Innovating for Change, Nurturing our Future.’

The upcoming edition features a blend of new attractions, including the Mining-Agri Village, which highlights the connection between mining and agriculture. The show also sees increased international participation and investment, with the aim of establishing ZAS as a top event in the region. This aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader national development goals, showcasing the country’s agricultural potential and its role in economic growth.

Over the years, the show has evolved significantly. It has moved away from the traditional format of waiting for farmers to bring their produce to Harare. Now, ZAS reaches out to farming areas, helping farmers improve production quality and prepare their displays for competitions.

Despite the country’s economic challenges, efforts have been made to ensure the show’s success. Entrance fees remain unchanged, leading to a surge in exhibitors competing for space.

The impact of climate change is evident, with last season’s severe rainfall shortage, water scarcity, and livestock losses serving as reminders. However, this challenge also presents an opportunity for farmers to engage with the show, learn about climate change mitigation, and adopt more sustainable farming practices. This is key to achieving food sufficiency and sustainability.
