Zimbabwe Boosts Energy Independence with US$48.1 Million Deka Pipeline Upgrade

Zimbabwe has taken a major step towards energy self-sufficiency and economic growth with the official opening of the upgraded Deka power transmission project. This critical project supports the country’s development goals and opens up new opportunities for progress.

The Deka upgrade is part of Zimbabwe’s plan to enhance its infrastructure, aiming to help the country achieve upper-middle-income status. The upgrade will increase power generation at Hwange Power Station by 600MW through the Unit 7 and 8 Expansion Project, made possible by a US$48.1 million partnership between Zimbabwe and India, facilitated by the Indian Exim Bank.
