Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) president Desmond Maringwa was among the mourners. Supporters were represented by Chris ‘Romario’ Musekiwa, among others.

It was a somber occasion as football fans mourned the Dynamos legend.

Maroto began playing soccer at a young age while attending Glenview 5 Primary School. His talent was noticed by Clayton Munemo, a notable Dynamos figure, who brought him to the club’s junior team. There, he played with Trymore Mtisi, Tapfumanei Gweshe, Samson Choruwa, Shame Ndiraire, Kelvin Gono, Blessing Mushangazhike, Walter Musanhi, Cephas Chimedza, and Isau Amisi.

They were all coached by Clayton Munemo and Biggie Zuze. Maroto continued his football journey at Churchill Boys High School.

Maroto moved up to the Dynamos reserves and quickly advanced to the first team, becoming part of the famous “Kidsnet” under celebrated coach Moses “Bambo” Chunga. He formed a strong partnership with Zambian player Clive Mwale, and together they dominated Premier League defenders.

He later joined Gunners Football Club, won the league title, and scored over 20 goals—a record no striker has surpassed since he retired. Maroto then joined FC Platinum when they were promoted to the top flight in 2011 and later moved to Motor Action.

Norman Maroto passed away in Harare after complaining of flu symptoms. He began feeling unwell on Thursday and tweeted about his condition. Sadly, he died in the hospital the next day after being admitted overnight.

Go well, Norman. We will meet again.
