Dynamos’ substitute, Urikhob Sydney, scored the only goal in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) matchday 17 fixture against Greenfuel at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.
Urikhob came on just before the break, replacing Valentine Kadonzvo. He kept Greenfuel’s defense busy, creating many chances.
His efforts paid off in added time when he headed in a cross from Freddy Alick, bringing relief to Dynamos’ coach, Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe. Mangombe has been under pressure from both the executives and supporters as Dynamos have struggled to beat teams from last season.
Yesterday’s win was their first against these teams, thanks to Urikhob’s skills. Halfway through the season, Dynamos’ top scorers have fewer than five goals. Another import, Emmanuel Paga from Ghana, has only scored three goals this season. Dynamos now have five wins from 17 games.
Despite the win, Greenfuel coach Taurai Mangwiro was unhappy. He felt the officials’ decision to delay his player’s re-entry was unfair and costly. Mangwiro congratulated Mangombe on the win. Mangombe emphasized that they always play for a win and aim for maximum points.
The victory moved Dynamos to sixth place on the log with 24 points, while Greenfuel now sits in 12th place with 20 points.
