President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa attended the High-Level Presidential Dialogue at the 2024 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB), as reported by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable N.M. Ndlovu.
President Mnangagwa led a delegation to the 59th Annual Meetings of the AfDB in Nairobi, Kenya, from May 27 to 31, 2024. The meetings focused on “Africa’s Transformation, the African Development Bank Group, and the Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.”
African Heads of State and Government discussed the continent’s low growth rates, which are under 3%, contributing to high poverty, migration, and suffering. They emphasized the need to mobilize resources through natural resources, hybrid capital, climate finance, and green infrastructure. Additionally, they called for reforming the African Financial Architecture to enhance its role in the continent’s development.
President Mnangagwa highlighted the importance of self-reliance and sustainable development for Africa. He urged African nations to reduce reliance on former colonial powers and to fully exploit their natural resources and service industries to drive economic growth. This approach aims to transform Africa into a more prosperous and self-sufficient continent, capable of addressing its challenges and improving the quality of life for its people.
