The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has started a major operation called “No To Touts” across the country. This operation aims to stop gangs from harassing, threatening, and forcing travelers to use certain public service vehicles and pirate taxis.
As of June 20, 2024, the police have arrested 410 touts. These individuals are being taken to court to face justice. The ZRP has teamed up with the Judicial Service Commission to ensure that all arrested touts appear in court in groups. No fines will be allowed at police stations.
The ZRP is also warning public service vehicle operators and their staff against hiring touts. If it is found that they are employing touts, they will face legal consequences. Similarly, pirate taxis, known as mushikashika, that use touts to pick up and drop off passengers at illegal spots will also be punished.
The police are asking the public to report any touting activities. Reports can be made at any local police station or through the National Complaints Desk at (0242) 703631 or via WhatsApp at 0712 800 197.
