Rwodzi Named 2026 Unstoppable African Cabinet Minister of the Year

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Hon Barbara Rwodzi has been named the 2026 Unstoppable African Cabinet Minister of the Year, a continental honour that has been welcomed as a moment of national pride and a resounding affirmation of Zimbabwe’s growing stature as a world-class tourism destination.

The accolade recognises Rwodzi’s leadership at the forefront of promoting both domestic and international tourism, under a heritage-based approach that places Zimbabwe’s culture, wildlife, gastronomy and natural wonders at the centre of its tourism identity.

Under her stewardship, the sector has recorded strong growth. Domestic visitor numbers rose to 6.4 million in the first six months of 2026, up from 5 million during the same period in 2025, reflecting renewed confidence by Zimbabweans in travelling and exploring their own country.

Tourism earnings also strengthened, increasing by 6 percent to US$537 million in the first half of 2026, compared to US$508 million in the first half of 2025, underscoring the sector’s growing contribution to the national economy.

The recognition is also being seen as a testament to the broader vision guiding the sector, including the heritage-based tourism agenda championed at national level, and the support of the First Lady as Patron of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, whose passion for heritage, culture, wildlife and gastronomy continues to strengthen the country’s tourism brand.

The achievement aligns directly with Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 2, which position tourism as a key driver of inclusive economic growth, job creation, foreign currency earnings and community empowerment. As Zimbabwe works towards becoming an upper middle-income economy by 2030, the growth in domestic tourism, rising receipts and international recognition of its leadership show the sector is delivering on the NDS2 priorities of economic transformation, heritage preservation and sustainable development.

Continue flying the Zimbabwean flag high. Congratulations, Honourable Minister!
