New Dynamos coach Aristica Cioaba wasted no time making his mark as Dembare produced a vintage performance to overwhelm Agama 4-0 at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.
From the first whistle, it was a statement of intent. The Glamour Boys dominated possession, pressed high, and played with the speed and flair that reminded fans of Dynamos football of the 90s. Dembare supporters spent the entire 90 minutes on their feet, urging their team on as wave after wave of attacks broke down the Agama defence.
The hosts were building from the back with purpose. The goalkeeper had more touches than anyone on the pitch, a clear sign of Cioaba’s philosophy, and whenever they crossed the halfway line they changed gears to pin Agama back.
The breakthrough came in the 27th minute from a set piece. Abel Gwatidzo delivered a pinpoint cross and Isaac Landa rose to do justice to it with a well-taken header for the opener. Before Agama could recover, Gwatidzo turned scorer. Spotting goalkeeper Wilson Brown off his line in the 36th minute, he pulled the trigger from range and beat him cleanly to make it 2-0.
Dynamos came out firing in the second half and it took just 3 minutes for the third. New import Agyemang combined with Leeroy Mavhunga, received the pass and slotted home to put the game beyond reach.
The rout was completed with 2 minutes remaining when Agyemang was fouled in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and the Ghanaian stepped up to convert the penalty himself, sealing a 4-0 victory and his brace on debut.
Speaking after the match, a delighted Cioaba said:
“I am very much happy to have picked up a clean sheet in my first game. The play was good. We dominated the first half, and I am so grateful the boys responded to my philosophy.” he said.
It was the perfect start for the Romanian tactician and a result that has reignited belief among the
DeMbare faithful that attractive, attacking football is back at Rufaro.
