A 54th-minute penalty converted by Fungai “Alaba” Murapa proved enough to secure maximum points for the visitors, extending the club’s impressive run under coach Arthur Tutani.

The victory was Jumbo Giants’ third win in four matches since Tutani took charge, lifting the team four places to fifth position on the 22-team log with 26 points from 17 matches.

Jumbo Giants now trail league leaders Harare City by six points after the pacesetters defeated Cranborne Bullets 2-0 on Wednesday, courtesy of a second-half brace from Manuel Meleka.

Speaking after the match, Tutani praised his players for their determination and commitment.

“I would like to congratulate my boys for collecting points on the road. It shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel. But every game is a new game and we’ll keep on working hard,” he said.

Tutani also acknowledged the quality of the opposition.

“I don’t want to take anything away from Marere. They are a good team, powerful and full of energy. But every dog has its own day. It’s tough luck to my fellow coach; he did his homework correctly, but the big boys have just won,” he said.

Jumbo Giants will now shift their focus to Saturday’s home fixture against Highrange at Jumbo Mine Stadium, where they will be seeking to extend their unbeaten run and further strengthen their push towards the top of the table.

Organisers have announced free entry for supporters attending the match, while popular local musician Tocky Vibes is expected to provide entertainment for fans before and after the encounter.
