RTG ROLLS OUT NATIONWIDE FATHER’S DAY EXPERIENCES TO BOOST DOMESTIC TOURISM

By Aldridge Dzvene

HARARE – Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) has unveiled an extensive range of Father’s Day experiences across its hospitality portfolio, highlighting the growing importance of experiential tourism and family-centred hospitality offerings within Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.

As families prepare to celebrate Father’s Day on June 21, RTG’s nationwide programme spans multiple destinations, including Harare, Victoria Falls, Bulawayo, Kadoma and Nyanga, offering a blend of culinary experiences, leisure activities, outdoor adventures and family entertainment.

The initiative reflects broader trends within the hospitality industry, where hotels are increasingly moving beyond accommodation services to create themed experiences designed to attract both local and international visitors.

For RTG, the Father’s Day campaign represents more than a seasonal promotion. It demonstrates the tourism group’s strategy of leveraging its diverse portfolio to stimulate domestic tourism while enhancing customer engagement and loyalty.

Across its properties, the Group has crafted experiences tailored to different market segments. From traditional Zimbabwean cuisine in Victoria Falls and braai-themed celebrations in Harare to mountain adventures in Nyanga and riverfront leisure activities along the Zambezi, the offerings seek to showcase the diversity of tourism products available within Zimbabwe.

The programme also underscores the increasing role of domestic tourism in supporting the hospitality sector. In recent years, tourism operators have placed greater emphasis on attracting local travellers through special events, family packages and destination experiences that encourage Zimbabweans to explore attractions within their own country.

Particularly notable is the integration of cultural and heritage elements into some of the experiences. Traditional dishes featured at selected properties highlight Zimbabwe’s culinary heritage, while adventure packages in destinations such as Nyanga and Victoria Falls seek to leverage the country’s natural assets to enhance visitor experiences.

The Father’s Day offerings further illustrate the evolving nature of Zimbabwe’s tourism industry, where hospitality establishments are increasingly positioning themselves as lifestyle and experience destinations rather than simply accommodation providers.

Industry analysts note that themed events and family-focused experiences contribute to increased occupancy levels, restaurant traffic and visitor spending, generating broader economic benefits for the tourism value chain. Such initiatives also create opportunities for local suppliers, entertainers, tour operators and service providers who participate in the delivery of tourism experiences.

RTG’s inclusion of activities such as golf, hiking, quad biking, river cruises and guided heritage tours also reflects a growing emphasis on experiential tourism, one of the fastest-growing segments within the global travel industry. Modern travellers increasingly seek immersive experiences that combine leisure, culture, adventure and personal connection.

The campaign comes as Zimbabwe continues efforts to strengthen its tourism sector as a key pillar of economic growth, foreign currency generation and employment creation. Hospitality operators are increasingly investing in innovative products and customer experiences to remain competitive and stimulate demand.

As one of Zimbabwe’s largest tourism groups, RTG’s nationwide Father’s Day programme demonstrates how targeted hospitality experiences can simultaneously celebrate family milestones, support domestic tourism and contribute to broader sector growth.

Beyond honouring fathers, the initiative highlights the capacity of Zimbabwe’s tourism industry to create memorable experiences that bring families together while showcasing the country’s rich hospitality offering and diverse tourism destinations.
