Two contract employees have died in separate incidents at Bikita Minerals over the weekend, the mining company confirmed in a statement to stakeholders on Sunday.
The first fatality occurred on Friday, 6 June 2026, at approximately 7:45pm. The deceased was a dump truck driver employed by WGB Kinsey & Company, a contractor operating at the mine. Bikita Minerals said investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the driver’s death are ongoing.
In a second incident, a security guard attached to Rebnek Security, another contractor at the site, was found unresponsive while on duty in the early hours of Saturday, 7 June 2026. The guard was discovered by a supervisor conducting routine inspections.
Bikita Minerals extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of both deceased workers, reiterating its commitment to a safe working environment.
“The safety, health, and wellbeing of everyone at our operations remain a core priority,” the statement read.
Management confirmed it is working with WGB Kinsey & Company, Rebnek Security, and relevant authorities to establish the facts around both incidents. The company said details of the inquiry results will be released in due course once investigations are concluded and next of kin have been formally notified.
Bikita Minerals, one of Zimbabwe’s largest lithium and petalite producers, is located in Masvingo Province and operates under Sinomine Resource Group. The mine uses multiple contracting firms for haulage, security, and support services.
The company did not indicate whether operations were suspended following the incidents. Mining regulators, including the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development and the National Social Security Authority, are typically notified of workplace fatalities and may conduct independent assessments.
The names of the deceased have been withheld pending completion of official processes and family notifications.
