Harare – Workers’ Day commemorations held at Dzivarasekwa were marked by strong calls for improved labour conditions, economic inclusion, and strengthened cooperation between workers and leadership, with Honourable Paul Mavhima affirming Government’s commitment to addressing workers’ concerns.
Speaking at the event, Honourable Mavhima said the demands of workers will be duly noted and given the attention they deserve within ongoing policy frameworks.
“Workers are the cornerstone of society and the economy. They create wealth and also help shape future generations,” he said.
He emphasised that inclusive economic growth can only be achieved when the workforce is empowered and adequately remunerated, adding that the well-being of workers remains central to national development priorities.
“I am happy that today we are together, both workers and party leadership, especially ZANU PF,” he said.
Honourable Mavhima further underscored the importance of looking beyond monetary rewards, urging employers and stakeholders to understand the broader needs of workers, including safety and working conditions.
“No employer should deploy workers without protective equipment,” he said.
He added that Government’s focus remains on strengthening the social contract between labour, employers, and the State, in line with national development aspirations.
“Our major target is the social contract. Vision 2030 seeks to create employment and promote manufacturing. Every farm development is another act of job creation,” he said.
Quoting an African proverb, he said: “If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go as a team,” underscoring the importance of unity in national development.
He concluded by reaffirming the national development philosophy, saying, “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.”
The commemorations were also attended by ZANU PF Politburo Member Cde Chirau, Harare Province Chairman Cde Masimirembwa, and senior Government officials, who all lent their support to the occasion.
