Book NowThe Zimbabwe delegation, comprising 22 tour operators, reflects growing industry confidence and a deliberate national strategy to expand international market engagement through structured participation in key global tourism platforms. The presence of both public and private sector players underscores a coordinated approach to destination marketing and sector growth.
As one of Africa’s leading business-to-business (B2B) travel trade exhibitions, the World Travel Market Africa serves as a critical gateway for Zimbabwe to engage with influential global buyers drawn from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East. The platform enables direct engagement with decision-makers shaping global travel flows, providing Zimbabwe with an opportunity to reposition its tourism narrative and strengthen market visibility.
The country’s showcase is anchored on its core tourism strengths, heritage, culture, nature, and gastronomy, which continue to define Zimbabwe’s competitive identity within the global tourism economy. Industry stakeholders argue that this diversified offering remains central to attracting high-value tourists while promoting sustainable destination branding.
A key highlight of Zimbabwe’s participation was the engagement of the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Tongai Mnangagwa, who took part in the Travel Leaders’ Forum. The high-level dialogue centred on the theme, “Does money speak better than ethics – The responsibility chain in African Tourism,” a discussion that placed ethical governance and sustainability at the centre of tourism development debates.
In his contribution, the Deputy Minister emphasized that Zimbabwe’s tourism trajectory is anchored on a heritage-based model that inherently integrates sustainability as a national priority. He noted that policy direction under the National Tourism Policy framework is designed to ensure inclusive growth, responsible resource management, and long-term sector resilience.
He further stressed that Zimbabwe’s alignment with Vision 2030 is not only about increasing tourist arrivals, but also about ensuring that tourism development contributes meaningfully to economic transformation, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship.
The country’s participation in such global forums comes at a time when African tourism destinations are increasingly competing for market share in a rapidly evolving global travel economy shaped by digital transformation, shifting consumer behaviour, and sustainability expectations.
Analysts note that Zimbabwe’s active presence at WTM Africa signals a broader diplomatic and economic strategy that positions tourism as a key pillar of national development, export earnings, and international engagement.
As the exhibition continues, Zimbabwe is expected to deepen business linkages, secure strategic partnerships, and reinforce its positioning as a destination of choice rooted in authenticity, heritage, and sustainable growth.
