Government Set to Transform Harare’s Chiremba Road with New Overpass and Upgrade

The Government of Zimbabwe is poised to embark on a major infrastructure development project aimed at enhancing the transportation network in Harare. Plans are underway to construct an overpass at the intersection of Chiremba Road and Glenara Road, accompanied by a comprehensive upgrade of Chiremba Road itself.

This ambitious project is designed to address existing traffic challenges and improve connectivity in the Eastern parts of the city. The upgrade will see the refurbishment and completion of the route from Robert Mugabe Way through Braeside and Epworth to Mutare Road near George Shops, effectively eliminating a critical missing link in the city’s transportation infrastructure.

The project aligns with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which prioritizes infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth and urban transformation. By enhancing traffic flow and reducing congestion in residential areas, the government aims to improve the overall quality of life for Harare residents and stimulate economic activity in the region.

This initiative follows the successful completion of the iconic Trabablas interchange and the ongoing construction of the Mabvuku interchange, demonstrating the government’s commitment to modernizing Zimbabwe’s infrastructure. Other areas, including Kuwadzana and Rothmans, are also slated to benefit from the government’s infrastructure development program.

The Chiremba Road project is expected to have a significant impact on the city’s transportation landscape, providing a vital eastern corridor and enhancing connectivity between Harare’s suburbs and key economic hubs.
