NetOne Drives Digital Transformation Agenda at Zimbabwe Telecommunications Conference

The Zimbabwe Annual Telecommunications Conference and Exhibition has emerged as a defining platform in the country’s digital transformation journey, bringing together key players across the connectivity ecosystem to chart a path toward a more inclusive and technology-driven future.

At the centre of this engagement was NetOne Cellular, which took a leading role as the main partner, reinforcing its strategic position in advancing Zimbabwe’s digital infrastructure and innovation landscape. The conference provided a high-level forum for policy dialogue, technological exchange and the alignment of national priorities under the broader framework of digital transformation.

Delivering the keynote address, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera outlined Government’s vision for a digitally empowered Zimbabwe, emphasising the urgency of embracing emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to drive inclusive growth and sustainable development. Her address also highlighted the importance of safeguarding vulnerable groups, particularly children, within the expanding digital ecosystem, signalling a balanced approach between innovation and regulatory responsibility.

Representing NetOne’s executive leadership, Mrs. Majero, Head of Network Planning, delivered a technically grounded and forward-looking perspective on the future of telecommunications in Zimbabwe. Speaking on behalf of Group Chief Executive Officer Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, she emphasised the need for sustained investment in resilient and high-capacity network infrastructure capable of meeting the country’s rapidly growing data demands.

Her remarks underscored a strategic shift toward future-proofing connectivity systems, with a strong focus on expanding network coverage to underserved and rural communities. This aligns with national development priorities aimed at bridging the digital divide and ensuring that technological progress translates into broad-based socio-economic inclusion.

Equally significant was the emphasis on innovation in network optimisation, where the integration of smart technologies is expected to enhance service delivery, improve customer experience and drive operational efficiency. This reflects a broader industry trend in which telecommunications companies are evolving from traditional service providers into enablers of digital ecosystems.

The conference also reinforced the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration, with Government, regulators and private sector players converging around a shared vision for sector growth. The collective emphasis on partnership highlights a recognition that no single entity can drive digital transformation in isolation, particularly in a rapidly evolving global technological environment.

Beyond its immediate outcomes, the event symbolised a deeper structural shift within Zimbabwe’s telecommunications sector. It marked a transition from fragmented efforts toward a more coordinated and strategic approach to digital development, anchored on infrastructure, policy alignment and innovation.

As Zimbabwe accelerates its journey toward a fully connected economy, platforms such as this conference are increasingly becoming critical in shaping the direction of the sector. With strong institutional backing and industry leadership from players like NetOne, the foundations are being laid for a resilient, inclusive and globally competitive digital future.
