ZANU PF districts including Border Gezi, Sarudzai Chinamaropa, Joshua Mukomo and Chimurenga converged in support of the proposed amendment, reflecting coordinated grassroots engagement on the issue.

ZANU PF Central Committee member and war veteran Tsitsi Nyirenda attended the gathering and noted that the amendment is intended to enhance national development.

“This amendment bill is for our own good as it creates more time for nation building and development,” she said.

The proposed amendment seeks to extend the term of office for the President and Members of Parliament from five years to seven years, a move supporters argue will provide continuity in governance and policy implementation.

Among DCC members present were Vice Chairman Seremani, Cde Masiiwa (Secretary for Lands), Youth Affairs Cde Arthur Chideme, Cde Mhakayakora (Secretary for Indigenisation), as well as representatives responsible for education and business liaison.

Cde Seremani emphasized the need to align with national development goals, stating that fulfilling the Vision 2030 agenda remains a priority. He added that democratic systems differ globally, citing countries such as Japan, China and Botswana as examples where Members of Parliament play a role in selecting the President.

“Development and unity are key,” he said.

Mashonaland East Province reiterated its full support for Amendment Bill No. 3, which also proposes increasing the number of Senators from 80 to 90.

Party members including Gift Nyamhuka and Ngondo were among those who welcomed the proposed changes, describing them as progressive for national development.

Mashonaland East Provincial Chairman Daniel Garwe is expected to further address the matter at Juru Growth Point as mobilisation efforts continue ahead of the upcoming rally.
