Betterbrands Secures Manicaland River Rehabilitation Project, Signaling Strategic Development Leap

Harare – Betterbrands, under the leadership of Scott Sakupwanya, has been awarded the Manicaland River Rehabilitation Project, a landmark initiative covering four key rivers in Chipinge, Chimanimani, Nyanga, and Mutare. The project represents a critical step in enhancing Zimbabwe’s environmental resilience, supporting agriculture, and strengthening infrastructure in line with the country’s Vision 2030 aspirations.

The initiative is set to address pressing ecological challenges, including flood risks, soil erosion, and water management inefficiencies, while also creating sustainable opportunities for economic activity and local livelihoods. The project’s scale and technical complexity reflect a commitment to delivering solutions that integrate engineering innovation, environmental compliance, and community impact.
Betterbrands’ prior work in the pilot phase demonstrated measurable results, showcasing the company’s ability to deliver outcomes under complex conditions. This performance-driven approach underpins the government’s confidence in awarding the broader Manicaland mandate to the firm.

Beyond environmental rehabilitation, the project is expected to have wide-ranging socio-economic benefits. Restored river systems will support agriculture by stabilizing water supply, enhance climate resilience, and mitigate disaster-related risks that have historically affected the region. In addition, the rehabilitation works are anticipated to generate employment and strengthen local capacities in technical and environmental management.

Observers note that the Manicaland River Rehabilitation Project is emblematic of Zimbabwe’s broader development strategy, where infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and economic growth are increasingly interconnected. By prioritizing initiatives that balance ecological sustainability with measurable social and economic impact, the project sets a precedent for future large-scale programs across the country.

As the works progress, the project is expected to provide a model for effective public-private collaboration, demonstrating how strategic investments in natural infrastructure can yield lasting benefits for communities, industry, and national development.

Betterbrands’ engagement with this project illustrates the potential for Zimbabwe to advance simultaneously in environmental management and economic development, reflecting the government’s commitment to translating Vision 2030 goals into tangible, on-the-ground results.
