Zimbabwe Shines at FITUR 2026 as Inaugural Consumer Day Yields Positive Outcomes

Zimbabwe’s tourism sector made a strong impression at the 2026 International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR), with the inaugural Consumer Day delivering encouraging results for Destination Zimbabwe. High tourist turnout, active engagement with exhibitors, and tangible booking leads underscored the country’s growing appeal as a multi-experience destination for the European market.

The Zimbabwe Stand attracted significant interest from Spanish consumers, many of whom were returning tourists seeking extended tours that traverse the country’s diverse offerings. From the majestic Victoria Falls to the wildlife-rich Mana Pools, the historical and cultural significance of Great Zimbabwe, the spiritual landscapes of Matobo Hills, and the pristine wilderness of Gonarezhou National Park, exhibitors reported strong engagement and renewed interest in Zimbabwean tourism products. The event reinforced the importance of sustained participation at global tourism platforms and highlighted the country’s capacity to offer a wide range of high-quality, immersive experiences.

On the second day of the fair, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon Barbara Rwodzi, together with Ambassador Dr Sekai Nzenza, engaged directly with tourism operators, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the sector and fostering collaborative marketing strategies. The interactions underscored Zimbabwe’s drive to position itself competitively on the global tourism map while ensuring public-private partnerships enhance the country’s appeal to international visitors.

A standout feature of the fair was the spotlight on gastronomy tourism as a key driver of destination competitiveness. Zimbabwe’s unique culinary offerings captured significant attention, and high-level bilateral discussions further amplified the country’s profile. Minister Rwodzi met with Seychelles’ Minister of Tourism, Hon Amanda Bernstein, who expressed interest in collaborating with Zimbabwe and benchmarking its gastronomy-led tourism initiatives, signaling opportunities for regional knowledge exchange and cooperative marketing.

The positive outcomes from Consumer Day at FITUR 2026 highlight Zimbabwe’s growing visibility and credibility in the European tourism market. Stakeholders at the fair expressed optimism about the potential for increased arrivals, longer stays, and enhanced tourism revenues, reflecting the strategic value of international fairs in positioning Zimbabwe as a premier, multi-experience destination.

By showcasing the country’s diverse tourism assets, strengthening government-industry engagement, and leveraging niche offerings such as gastronomy tourism, Zimbabwe is steadily consolidating its reputation as a competitive and innovative player on the global tourism stage. The FITUR 2026 experience further affirms the nation’s trajectory toward sustainable tourism growth and international recognition.
