In a statement dated 19 January 2026, the Ministry said the initiative is designed to ensure that potholes, damaged bridges, eroded road shoulders, collapsed culverts and other hazardous defects are reported promptly and attended to without the bureaucratic delays that have historically undermined infrastructure upkeep.
The introduction of provincial hotlines represents a strategic shift towards decentralised, real-time citizen engagement in infrastructure governance. By allowing road users, communities and transport operators to report defects directly to provincial engineers, the Ministry is effectively crowd-sourcing surveillance of the national road network, a critical development given Zimbabwe’s vast road system and the financial and logistical constraints that often limit routine inspections. This approach places ordinary citizens at the centre of infrastructure protection, transforming them from passive users into active partners in road safety.
The Ministry has designated Engineers to receive and act on the reports in each province. The hotlines are as follows: Bulawayo Metropolitan – Eng. T. According to the Ministry, these engineers are mandated to receive reports, verify them and coordinate the necessary emergency works or referrals to contractors and road authorities.
