Zimbabwe, The Zimbabwe Republic Police, ZRP, has confirmed that Dr Tempter Paul Tungwarara, Presidential Investment Advisor and ZANU-PF national sponsor, is not under investigation for any criminal activity, contradicting claims circulating on social media.
Dr Tungwarara, who has been recommended by Manicaland provincial leaders for co-option into the party’s Central Committee, became the subject of an allegedly official statement suggesting police were probing him over fraud allegations linked to his companies, Paulos Construction and Prevail Group International.
ZRP spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, dismissed the claims on Saturday, 13 December, describing the statement as fake and fabricated. He said the Commercial Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigation Department is not conducting any inquiries into Dr Tungwarara or his businesses.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses a fake and false statement circulating on social media to the effect that Police’s Commercial Crimes Division is seeking to question Dr Tempter Paul Tungwarara in connection with purported fraudulent activities linked to his companies,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
He further warned against the misuse of Artificial Intelligence, AI, to spread false information that causes public confusion and alarm.
The disputed statement had alleged that Dr Tungwarara was involved in suspicious transactions, including the Harare City Council refuse contract, the Cyber City Project, where a foreign national, Nawab Shaji Ul Mulk, purportedly lost US$2 million, and the Presidential Borehole Scheme. It called on the public to report his whereabouts to the police.
The ZRP said the statement was untrue and reiterated that any legal action will be taken only when genuine suspects are identified.
