Book NowHarare – As terms such as Ama2K, Gen Z, and the “Skrr Skrr” generation continue to dominate public discourse, ZANU PF youth leader Cde Taurai Kandishaya says the emerging generation prefers a different identity altogether.
“We choose to call them NexGen, or Zillennials,” said Cde Kandishaya.
He stressed that the priorities of the new millennium generation are not misplaced, their mode of dressing is not wrong and their culture is not immoral. Rather, he explained, they simply have their own language and their own way of doing things.
“In church, they do not want to spend too much time, and at political rallies, they do not want to sit on the floor,” Cde Kandishaya noted. “They want engagement, but fused with the present. They do not stay too close to traditional politics.”
According to Cde Kandishaya, what defines the Zillennials is their desire for progress, happiness and structure, with only a few rules.
“They also want to see more Trabablases, more Highlands Park developments and more good restaurants,” he said, noting that aesthetics play a major role in how this generation relates to spaces and experiences.
“They are a generation of aesthetics.”
Cde Kandishaya revealed that this coming week, political stakeholders will be joined by Zillennials, those born from 1999 into the new millennium, for a Politics Mubhazi In-Bus Tour aimed at engaging the generation in a way that resonates with their values and lifestyle.
