Hwange Unit 3 Taken Offline for 44-Day Maintenance

Harare, ZESA Holdings has announced that Hwange Power Station’s Unit 3 will be taken offline for statutory maintenance from 10 September to 24 October 2025, a planned outage spanning 44 days.

The exercise is aimed at enhancing the unit’s availability and reliability, with ZESA confirming that four units at the station will remain in operation during the maintenance period to sustain power generation.

While the utility apologised for the inconvenience, it stressed that the outage is part of broader efforts to improve supply stability and ensure a sustainable energy future. Analysts note that Hwange, the backbone of Zimbabwe’s electricity generation, continues to face heavy demand pressure, making regular maintenance a critical yet disruptive necessity.

ZESA urged stakeholders to remain patient as it works to strengthen the grid, pointing to ongoing investment programmes and a commitment to long-term supply reliability.
