The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested a 27-year-old woman from Odzi after a viral social media video showed her severely assaulting her 11-year-old daughter whose hands and legs had been tied.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect, Idah Mushayi, was picked up following investigations into the widely circulated clip, which sparked outrage online.

The incident occurred on 13 November 2025 at Village 28, Mount Zonzwe, Chief Marange, Odzi. According to police, the minor was allegedly attacked over the suspected theft of US$11.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police condemns all forms of violence against children. We urge parents and guardians to correct and guide their children in a responsible and non-violent manner,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
