A high-level courtesy call by two Azerbaijani Members of Parliament to the Speaker of Zimbabwe’s National Assembly, Hon. Advocate Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda, has set the tone for deeper inter-parliamentary engagement and cooperation between the two countries.
Hon. Zaur Shukurov and Hon. Mazahir Afandiyev, who serve on the Azerbaijan-Zimbabwe Inter-Parliamentary Relations Working Group, emphasized the importance of building meaningful institutional ties during their meeting at the Parliament Building on Thursday.
“We had fruitful deliberations with the Speaker,” said Hon. Shukurov. “We want to see what more we can do to enhance cooperation between our two nations. Our parliaments have a lot to share and we should take advantage of our cordial relations. We have discussed areas of cooperation that include education and agriculture. We look forward to working together.”
The meeting, described as constructive and forward-looking, underscored the shared interest in leveraging parliamentary diplomacy to unlock practical cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, particularly tobacco, education, and technology transfer.
Speaker Mudenda welcomed the engagement as a strategic step in building sustainable partnerships that transcend traditional diplomacy. The discussions are expected to pave the way for joint ventures, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building programs, positioning both countries to benefit from shared expertise and innovation.
