Parliament officially welcomed a new voice to the National Assembly on Tuesday, as Hon. Tsitsi Tranquility Tawomhera took the Oath of Loyalty and formally assumed her seat as the elected Member of Parliament for Glenview South Constituency.
Her swearing-in follows confirmation by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), in accordance with Section 67(iii) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], that she was duly elected with effect from 12 April 2025. The seat became vacant following the death of the late Hon. Grandmore Hakata, whose passing left a leadership gap in the constituency he served with distinction.
Hon. Tawomhera’s entrance into Parliament has been welcomed as part of a broader wave of emerging political leadership that blends continuity with fresh energy. In her brief remarks after taking the oath, she acknowledged the weight of public trust placed upon her shoulders and pledged to build on the legacy of her predecessor while advancing new development priorities for Glenview South.
“I am deeply honoured to serve the people of Glenview South and to carry forward the work that the late Hon. Hakata began. My focus will be on inclusive development, youth empowerment, and ensuring that our communities are heard and represented with integrity,” she said.
Her arrival comes at a time when Parliament is navigating several pressing national issues, including economic recovery, service delivery reforms, and community resilience amid climate-related challenges. Observers say her election reflects continued confidence in the ruling party’s grassroots appeal and capacity to maintain support in urban constituencies.
Hon. Tawomhera is expected to serve on key committees and contribute actively to debates around public service delivery, social development, and youth policy. Her election also adds to the growing representation of women in Zimbabwe’s legislative processes, aligning with ongoing national efforts to promote gender parity in political decision-making.
With her oath taken and her seat secured, Hon. Tawomhera begins her legislative journey with a clear mandate from Glenview South, one that will be closely watched both by constituents and national stakeholders.
