President Mnangagwa Declares Cde Walter Basopo a National Hero

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared the late Retired Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) Director, Cde Walter Basopo, a national hero in recognition of his dedicated service to Zimbabwe.

Cde Basopo passed away in South Africa on Tuesday. His contribution to the country’s security and liberation efforts was hailed as exemplary and deserving of the nation’s highest honour.

ZANU PF Secretary for Security and Minister of State for National Security, Cde Lovemore Matuke, officially announced the conferment of the national hero status.

“President Mnangagwa saw it fit to declare Cde Basopo a national hero after considering his contribution to the country,” said Minister Matuke.

Further details regarding funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be released in due course, as the nation prepares to honour one of its loyal and distinguished patriots.
