Zimbabwe and Mozambique are taking bold steps to strengthen their bilateral economic cooperation, with a strong focus on trade expansion, infrastructure development, and business-to-business engagement. This renewed drive was underscored during a state dinner hosted by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Bulawayo in honour of Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, who is in the country to officially open the 65th Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).

Book NowPresident Mnangagwa highlighted the growing momentum in economic collaboration, citing increased joint efforts in agriculture, energy, transport, tourism, manufacturing, and mining. “Efforts towards enhancing investment and trade between our two countries continue to yield intended results,” he said, pointing to rising business interactions and sector-based cooperation.
One of the key mechanisms strengthening this relationship is the participation of a high-powered Mozambican business delegation at the ZITF Business Roundtable. Their presence, coupled with exhibitions by Mozambican companies, reflects a shared commitment to scaling up trade volumes and investment flows.
Infrastructure development also featured prominently in the two countries’ cooperation agenda. President Mnangagwa spotlighted the Ponta Techobanine Project, a strategic transport corridor set to connect Zimbabwe to the Indian Ocean through Mozambique. The project is expected to open new gateways for trade and improve regional logistics.
“The importance of shared cross-border infrastructure towards accelerating multi-pronged industrialisation, modernisation and overall development cannot be over-emphasised,” said President Mnangagwa. He noted that the Ponta Techobanine corridor will have far-reaching economic benefits for both countries.
In addition, environmental cooperation was mentioned as part of the broader collaboration efforts, with both nations advancing initiatives for conservation and climate change mitigation.
The state dinner also served as a reminder of the historic ties between ZANU-PF and FRELIMO. President Mnangagwa reaffirmed the two countries’ revolutionary solidarity and mutual commitment to regional sovereignty and development.
As Zimbabwe and Mozambique intensify collaboration across economic and strategic sectors, their partnership is evolving into a model for regional integration and cooperation based on shared vision and mutual benefit.
