HARARE – The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has confirmed that all logistical and operational arrangements are in place for Saturday’s by-elections in Glenview South Constituency and Rushinga Rural District Council (RDC) Ward 19.
Addressing journalists at ZEC headquarters in Harare on Friday, ZEC Vice Chairperson Mr Rodney Kiwa said the electoral body is fully prepared, with all necessary materials and personnel deployed.
“Our preparations are also in terms of election material as well as human resources, and I can confirm that the material and human resources are now in place and ready for the elections tomorrow,” said Kiwa.
According to ZEC, Glenview South has 31,519 registered voters and 33,700 ballot papers have been printed. In Rushinga RDC Ward 19, 1,700 ballot papers have been printed for 1,578 registered voters. The elections will be conducted at 43 polling stations in Glenview South and four in Rushinga.
Kiwa also confirmed that the accreditation process for observers and media personnel remains open until polling day and urged candidates and stakeholders to adhere to the electoral code of conduct.
“It is important for candidates and stakeholders to respect the law. There is a code of conduct which guides how elections are done, and for a peaceful election, the law should be upheld,” he said.
The ballot papers were printed by the Printing and Minting Company of Zimbabwe.
The Glenview South parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of legislator Gladmore Hakata, while the Rushinga RDC Ward 19 by-election follows the death of Councillor Howard Machipisa.
Five candidates are contesting the Glenview South seat, while two candidates are vying for the Rushinga RDC Ward 19 seat.
