Youth Empowerment and Governance: A Call for Action in Shaping Zimbabwe’s Future

The Youth Model Parliament has emerged as a vital platform for young Zimbabweans to engage in governance, shaping policies that affect their future. Addressing the forum, the keynote speaker underscored the importance of youth participation in national development, emphasizing that governance structures must accommodate young voices to drive sustainable change.

A key focus was the alignment of youth programs with Vision 2030, ensuring that the 2.2 million unemployed, untrained, and uneducated young people are integrated into economic activities. The government’s youth empowerment strategy, currently under development, aims to provide financial opportunities, facilitate skills training, and foster entrepreneurship.

The speech also highlighted the role of education in preparing youth for leadership. The need for curriculum reform to equip young people with practical skills was emphasized, aligning education with the evolving job market.

Furthermore, the address pointed to the significance of creating an enabling environment for youth-led initiatives. This includes access to funding, mentorship programs, and the removal of bureaucratic barriers that often hinder young entrepreneurs.

As Zimbabwe moves towards achieving its national development goals, the role of youth in governance and economic transformation remains crucial. The Youth Model Parliament, as a platform, continues to serve as a training ground for future leaders, ensuring that their contributions shape policies that drive the nation forward.
