Newly promoted Scottland Football Club stunned Caps United with a 2-0 victory in an exciting castle lager premier soccer league (PSL) encounter at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Caps United goalkeeper Harmony Nare put on a stellar performance, doing everything possible to keep his team in the game. Despite his efforts, Caps United could not contain the energetic Scottland side, suffering a disappointing defeat. Nare’s heroics earned him the Man of the Match award, as his saves prevented an even heavier loss.

Scottland now top the league standings with six points from two matches. From the first whistle, they showed intent, making a few changes from their previous lineup against Triangle. Khama Billiat and Mthokozisi Msebe were included in the starting XI, while Vasilli “Chewe” Kawe was benched. Both Billiat and Msebe justified their selection with strong performances.

The Mabvuku-based side secured maximum points through an impressive attacking display. Tymon Machope and Sydney Urikhob found the back of the net in the second half, breaking Caps United’s resistance. Despite the defeat, Caps supporters appreciated Nare’s performance, rewarding him with cash after the match.

Sensing the need for change, Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe introduced Jean Mutudza, Chintuli, and Mbollo for Shandirwa Chinyengetere and Junior Bunjira in the 60th minute. Kundai Benyu was later replaced by Matindife in the 82nd minute, but the changes failed to turn the game around.

Scottland goalkeeper Tilber Shumba also had a standout performance, denying Jayden Bakari in a one-on-one situation and making a crucial save from Jean Mutudza’s long-range effort.

Chitembwe admitted that defensive errors cost his team, stating that the two late goals could have been avoided. Meanwhile, Scottland coach Tonderayi Ndiraya was delighted with his team’s performance, expressing confidence in their title ambitions.

Scottland’s early-season form suggests they are serious contenders in the PSL race.
