The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified its operation, “No to Mushikashika and Lawlessness on the Roads,” aiming to clamp down on illegal public transport services and road safety violations across the country.
In a statement yesterday, the ZRP expressed gratitude for the public’s support of the ongoing operation and emphasized that only registered kombis, with all necessary documentation, will be allowed to operate as public service vehicles. The Police made it clear that unregistered kombis and pirate taxis would not be permitted to conduct business, reinforcing the need for compliance with the country’s road regulations.

Book NowThe ZRP also called on kombi owners to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and licensed with the relevant authorities, stressing the importance of legal compliance for the safety of passengers and other road users.
Further, the Police have warned the traveling public against boarding unlicensed kombis, particularly those in poor condition, such as vehicles lacking registration plates or those with makeshift coverings for windows. Passengers have also been advised to avoid boarding or waiting for transport at non-designated points to prevent disruptions to traffic flow.
In addition to targeting illegal kombis, the Police are addressing corruption within their own ranks. Several unregistered kombi operators have been found to be collaborating with corrupt elements in the Police force, facilitating illegal activities on the roads.
The operation has also focused on unregistered kombis operating along the Chitungwiza-Harare Central Business District route, specifically those dropping passengers before the Seke Bridge. The ZRP is taking immediate action to prevent these illegal activities.
Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba, has ordered Police Commanders to ensure that registered and compliant kombis pass through checkpoints without unnecessary delays, in line with the operation’s goal of restoring order to public transport.
