Kombi Driver Arrested After Reckless Pavement Driving in Harare CBD

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of Nikisi Kudzanai Peter (29), the driver of a Toyota Hiace kombi, registration number AGL 1316, who was filmed driving on the pavement along Julius Nyerere Way near OK Zimbabwe Supermarket in Harare’s Central Business District.

The incident prompted police to set up a roadblock on Seke Road on 18 January 2025 after receiving a tip-off that the kombi was heading to Chitungwiza. Upon approaching the roadblock near ABC Auctions, the driver attempted to escape by reversing the vehicle but was blocked by other cars. He then abandoned the kombi, which was impounded by the authorities.

Nikisi was apprehended on 22 January 2025 after police received information regarding his location.

This arrest comes as part of the ongoing nationwide operation “No to Mushikashika,” which targets illegal transport activities. On 22 January 2025 alone, 538 arrests were made, bringing the total to 8,233 since the operation began. Additionally, 204 touts have been arrested, and 67 unregistered vehicles have been impounded.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reiterated its warning to motorists to adhere to road rules to ensure public safety and prevent endangering lives.
