Harare – In a move aimed at improving the efficiency of Zimbabwe’s justice delivery system, fifteen magistrates were sworn in at the Harare Magistrates Court, with Chief Magistrate Mrs. Vongai Guwuriro presiding over the ceremony.
The development comes as the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) expands its operations across the country. Mrs. Guwuriro highlighted the importance of increasing the number of magistrates to address delays in case resolution.
“The more magistrates we have, the more timely justice can be delivered. New courts have been constructed nationwide, and we must ensure we have adequate human resources to match the infrastructure,” she said.
The newly appointed magistrates are; Bentone Matope, Blessing Makaripe, Blessing Shumba, Daphne Maruta, Gillian Padzakashamba, Lawrence Mubvumbi, Marvellous Joma, Moreblessing Mahaso, Nyasha Mangezi, Nyengeterai Bushu, Rufaro Musiiwa, Samantha Ruponga, Samukelisiwe Mpande, Tariro Hove and Tendai Nyagura.
She also announced the forthcoming introduction of Fast Track Courts, designed to expedite case hearings and reduce backlogs.
“Fast Track Courts will be a game-changer. Cases will be heard instantly if all parties are present, reducing delays and witness fatigue,” she noted.
Mrs. Guwuriro emphasized the JSC’s commitment to human capital development and restoring public confidence in the justice system.
“Our courts exist to serve the people. Delivering justice requires a comprehensive approach, and we are committed to ensuring we meet the expectations of the public,” she added.
Of the fifteen magistrates sworn in, twelve are women, marking a significant step forward in promoting gender balance within the judiciary.
This initiative is expected to enhance justice delivery, ensuring efficiency and fostering greater public trust in Zimbabwe’s legal system.
