ZRP Dismisses False Social Media Claims on Leadership Transition

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed as false social media claims alleging that outgoing Commissioner-General of Police Tandabantu Godwin Matanga reported to his office in uniform, asserting that he had not received a letter of dismissal.

The allegations, reportedly circulated by COZWA and other platforms, have been described as baseless and misleading.

In a statement issued today, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi clarified that the incoming Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba, has smoothly assumed command of the ZRP without any obstacles. He emphasized that there are no Support Unit, Romeo Troop operations on standby, as alleged in the social media posts.

The ZRP strongly cautioned individuals and groups against attempting to create discord within the police force, warning that decisive legal action will be taken against perpetrators of such misinformation.

The ZRP urges the public to disregard the false claims and remain assured that the leadership transition within the organization has been conducted seamlessly and professionally.
