Zimparks Refutes Cyanide Poisoning Allegations at Lake Chivero

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has dismissed claims of cyanide poisoning in Lake Chivero.

Social media has been flooded with claims that the recent deaths of wild animals at Lake Chivero Recreational Park were caused by cyanide poisoning.

Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo emphasized that the deaths were caused by cyanobacteria, not cyanide, as claimed on social media.

Investigations conducted by the University of Zimbabwe, in collaboration with ZimParks’ Veterinary and Capture Unit, confirmed that cyanobacteria was the cause of the deaths.

The authority assured the public that no cyanide was detected in the samples collected for assessment.

The authority distanced itself from the misleading information being spread on social media.

The nation is encouraged to share information from credible sources to prevent unnecessary anxiety.
