Tourism Ministry Launches Festive Campaign, Boosting Zimbabwe’s Economic Growth

Minister Rwodzi

The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, under the visionary leadership of Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, has once again demonstrated its pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s economic transformation with the launch of the Domestic Tourism Festive Season Travel Campaign.

Held at the idyllic Mazowe Dam Resort on November 16, 2024, the campaign underscores the ministry’s commitment to harnessing the power of tourism to drive national development.

This launch comes at a time when the tourism sector is widely recognized as a cornerstone of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Hon. Rwodzi highlighted that the campaign not only encourages Zimbabweans to explore their homeland but also reinforces tourism’s role in generating foreign currency, creating jobs, and uplifting rural communities.

“The festive season is an opportunity for us to rediscover Zimbabwe’s beauty while contributing to the economy,” said Hon. Rwodzi. “Tourism is not just an industry—it’s a powerful engine for growth, and this campaign is a call to action for every citizen to embrace it.”

The campaign aligns with the ministry’s broader strategy to increase domestic participation in tourism, a move that has already boosted occupancy rates, driven investment in local attractions, and preserved cultural heritage. By focusing on domestic tourism, the Ministry has also mitigated the challenges posed by global economic fluctuations, ensuring resilience in the sector.

Mazowe Dam Resort, with its stunning vistas and serene ambiance, provided the perfect backdrop for the event, symbolizing the wealth of Zimbabwe’s untapped tourist potential. Stakeholders from the hospitality and transport sectors lauded the ministry’s efforts, acknowledging the significant mileage the sector has achieved in boosting national revenue.

This launch is yet another milestone for a ministry that has continually proven its worth as a leader in economic contribution. As the festive season unfolds, Zimbabweans are reminded that the country’s attractions are not just destinations—they are treasures that fuel the nation’s progress. Through such visionary campaigns, the tourism sector stands as a beacon of hope and growth for Zimbabwe’s economy.
