Zimbabwe Set to Host ESARBICA XXVIII in 2025

Zimbabwe will host the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Branch of the International Council of Archives (ESARBICA) XXVIII in 2025, following Cabinet’s approval of Honourable Kazembe Kazembe’s proposal. This milestone event aims to enhance archives management through regional collaboration, building on Zimbabwe’s successful hosting of the 2015 ESARBICA Conference in Victoria Falls.

The conference expects to attract 600 delegates from 24 member countries, spotlighting Zimbabwe as a prime tourism destination and boosting foreign currency earnings. The International Council of Archives has pledged €5,000 to support the conference.

In addition to preserving cultural heritage and promoting regional cooperation in archives management, Zimbabwe looks forward to the opportunities this conference will bring.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwean government faces allegations of torture and human rights abuse, particularly from opposition members and their supporters. However, Permanent Secretary Vimbai Nyemba questions the authenticity of these claims, suggesting they may be politically motivated.

The judiciary plays a crucial role in determining the truth, and the principle of law must prevail. Courts, not social media, should investigate allegations thoroughly, ensuring justice is served based on evidence and the rule of law.

The timing of these allegations often coincides with opposition arrests, raising concerns about undermining the government and its institutions.
