Palestine Honours President ED Mnangagwa

By Desire Tshuma

The Ambassador of the state of Palestine Dr Tamer Almassri expresses gratitude to the government of Zimbabwe led by H.E Emmerson Mnangagwa for voting in favour of the 18th of September 2024 United Nations General assembly (UNGA) draft resolution standing by the Palestinian people to achieve their rights.

The adopted UNGA resolution demands that Israel ends without delay its illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories within a year and to make reparations to Palestinians for damages incurred by the occupation.

“This principled position of solidarity by the government of Zimbabwe renews the hopes of our Palestinian people who are facing a comprehensive aggression and genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem to achieve its aspirations of freedom and independence and establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital”, Ambassador Almassri said.

He called on the global village to rally behind the country’s quest to assert its rights.

“The state of Palestine urges the international community to swiftly implement UN General Assembly resolution to ensure the end of occupation and settlement. All countries that did not support the resolution should reconsider their positions and join the rights side of history”, he went on.

Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory began in June 1967. Israel’s continued invasion and land confiscation is a thorn in the flesh of the majority of the United Nations countries although countries such as the United States of America which has Veto power support the illegal invasion and deprivation the Palestinians’ basic rights.

The UN is urged to resolve the issue as a matter of urgency. The draft resolution giving Israel twelve months to stop and retreat is a step in the right direction.

Palestinians deserve to enjoy their sovereignty without interference or provocation.
