Speaker Mudenda Advocates for Stronger Indonesia-Africa Ties at Key Parliamentary Forum

Zimbabwe’s Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Advocate J.F.N Mudenda, is championing stronger ties between Indonesia and African nations at the Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum in Bali, held from August 31 to September 2, 2024. The forum focuses on enhancing parliamentary cooperation to drive sustainable development and economic growth across both regions.

Arriving in Bali on August 30, Speaker Mudenda, along with key members of Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Portfolio Committee—Hon. Webster Shamhu, Hon. Sithabisiwe Moyo, and Hon. Brian Mudumi—was welcomed by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-designate to Indonesia, Martin Makururu. The event, hosted at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, follows the first Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum held in 2018 and has drawn over 150 participants from 21 African countries, including Speakers and Deputy Speakers.

Under the theme, “Forging Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Partnership for Development,” the forum aims to bolster the relationship between the two regions, focusing on mutual goals of self-determination, social justice, and sustainable economic progress. Speaker Mudenda will deliver a keynote address highlighting the critical role of South-South cooperation in achieving these objectHon. Webster Shamhu will also represent Zimbabwe as a panelist in a session dedicated to exploring the contributions of parliaments to prosperity and sustainable development. This gathering underscores Zimbabwe’s active role in international parliamentary diplomacy and its commitment to fostering global development partnerships.
