Presidential Solarisation Project to Brighten Rural Zimbabwe

Rural areas in Zimbabwe are set to receive a major boost with the introduction of solar-powered irrigation schemes and home solar electrification, following the recent approval of the Presidential Solarisation Project. This initiative, presented to the cabinet by Honourable Lovemore Matuke, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Devolution, is spearheaded by the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA).

The project aims to drive rural industrialisation and development by expanding solar-powered infrastructure. It promises several benefits including improved piped water systems, enhanced nutrition gardening, better livestock watering, and household solar power for daily needs.

Under this project, every rural household will receive a solar system that will power their electrical appliances. Additionally, a Solar Powered Water System equipped with a submersible pump will be installed to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security, particularly in remote areas without extensive grid infrastructure.

The Presidential Solarisation Project is a groundbreaking initiative designed to empower rural communities through clean, green energy. By using solar power, the project will reduce reliance on fossil fuels and help combat climate change. It aims to enhance energy security, promote economic growth, and improve air and water quality. Clean energy will also contribute to better public health and safeguard natural resources for future generations.

President Mnangagwa’s project represents a significant step towards a sustainable and prosperous future for Zimbabwe’s rural areas. It will provide reliable and clean electricity, supporting homes, schools, and healthcare facilities, and ultimately improving the quality of life for many.

The project aligns with Zimbabwe’s goals to cut carbon emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy. It will also generate jobs and stimulate local economic development, marking a major achievement in the country’s socio-economic progress.

President Mnangagwa’s leadership in launching this project is commendable. The Presidential Solarisation Project has the potential to transform rural Zimbabwe, offering a brighter and more sustainable future for its residents.
