In a landmark decision aimed at reshaping the regional landscape, the Cabinet has approved a major initiative to relocate the Matabeleland North Provincial offices from Bulawayo to Lupane Centre. This strategic move marks a significant milestone in the Government’s decentralization agenda, designed to bridge the urban-rural divide and promote inclusive development.
By shifting the provincial hub to Lupane, the Government intends to unlock the region’s potential, stimulate local economies, and bring essential services closer to residents. This bold step is expected to revitalize Lupane and have a profound impact on the lives of citizens, businesses, and communities across Matabeleland North Province.
Recently, Honourable Vice President Col. (Rtd) K.C.D. Mohadi visited Lupane Centre to assess the readiness of the new infrastructure. He confirmed that civil servants’ housing units are 90% complete and ready for immediate occupancy, the Government complex offices are fully finished and operational, and construction of Lupane Provincial Hospital is progressing well.
In a notable demonstration of commitment to the initiative, 55 Government officials have voluntarily agreed to relocate to Lupane. This move underscores their dedication to public service and the decentralization effort. Their relocation is set to enhance the delivery of Government services and contribute significantly to the development of Matabeleland North. To support this transition, 19 modern houses have been allocated to these officials, ensuring comfortable accommodation for them and their families.
This strategic relocation is expected to improve access to government services for the local population, foster closer engagement between officials and the community, and reduce the need for long-distance travel to Bulawayo. It will also promote regional development and growth while strengthening the presence of Government services in Lupane.
By bringing Government services closer to the people, the initiative aims to improve response times, increase citizen participation and feedback, tailor services to meet local needs, and empower communities through more inclusive governance.
With this historic move, the Second Republic reaffirms its commitment to decentralization and rural development. As Lupane steps into its role as a provincial hub, the region is poised for significant growth and transformation. This development represents a crucial step towards bridging the urban-rural divide, enhancing service delivery, and unlocking the full potential of Matabeleland North. Citizens, stakeholders, and partners look forward to a future of inclusivity, progress, and prosperity under President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
