
Zimbabwe proudly commemorates the 44th anniversary of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) today at Rufaro Stadium. Under the theme “Zimbabwe Defence Forces: Guaranteeing a Conducive Environment for the Attainment of Vision 2030,” the event highlighted the crucial role of the ZDF in safeguarding national security and advancing the country’s developmental goals.
In his address, President Mnangagwa praised the ZDF for their unwavering commitment to protecting Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity, emphasizing their vital contribution to the peace, unity, and development of the nation. He noted that the ZDF’s professionalism and discipline remain a cornerstone for the country’s progress despite the challenges posed by illegal sanctions and emerging security threats.
The President acknowledged the ZDF’s involvement in various community development projects, including the construction of schools and healthcare facilities, reflecting their role as a people’s army. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of Defence Forces members, including housing projects and healthcare improvements.
As Zimbabwe continues to face both traditional and emerging security threats, President Mnangagwa reiterated the importance of the ZDF’s focus on capacity building and regional cooperation. He expressed gratitude to the country’s international allies, such as China and Russia, for their ongoing support in defense and security spheres.
Today’s celebrations serve as a reminder of the ZDF’s enduring legacy and its pivotal role in ensuring a peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe, aligned with the nation’s Vision 2030.
